The Peer Help Centre operates as a peer helping peer service. Our mandate is to provide the student community with academic, personal, and social support and guidance, which is achieved through short-term peer consultation.

Living by the philosophy “students helping students”, the Peer Help Centre is trained and certified in Active Listening, Crisis Intervention, Limits and Boundaries, Suicide Awareness, Suicide Intervention and mentoring modules. Our volunteers and staff are here to assist students in times of personal strife, such as mental health issues, sexuality, substance abuse, domestic violence and partner abuse. Operating in a bias-free zone, Peer Help’s nonjudgmental and empathetic environment offers uOttawa students a comfortable place to turn to in a time of need and support.

At the Peer Help Centre we pride ourselves in confidentiality and anonymity. We believe in providing extensive, open access to the student community and do so by providing drop-in services during daytime business hours and a crisis phone line at night time for students who feel more comfortable receiving over-the-phone help.
